Osceola - Cemetery Civil War Monument - GPS Coordinates: 41.026233 by -93.777100
This 15 foot granite obelisk is located near a number of graves of Civil War soldiers. This is in Maple Hill Cemetery, 1122 South Ridge Road, on the SW edge of Osceola. Take South Ridge Road south of Highway 34. The monument is in the SE corner of the cemetery. Photos taken 11/25/07.
Osceola - GAR Stained Glass Window - GPS Coordinates: 41.022216 by -93.764733
The Methodist Church had to be razed in the 1960’s. It had 31 stained glass panels. Of these, 5 panels are displayed at the Clarke County Historical Museum and one of these relates to the Civil War. The panel is about 4 feet wide and 10 feet high. It is the GAR medal with images of soldiers on the sides. The Museum also has a Civil War Flag (regiment unknown) that is rolled up and very fragile. The Clarke County Museum is located on the south edge of town on Main Street or Highway 69. Photo taken 11/25/07.
