The west side of the Jackson County Freedom Rock portrays an event when Civil War soldiers from the region boarded a steamboat and headed down the Mississippi to join Union forces. See the old photo from 1862 for more historical information. The Freedom Rock is in a beautiful location along the Bellevue waterfront with Lock and Dam #12 behind it. It was painted by artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen. Photos taken July 12, 2024.
