Onawa - Civil War Soldier and Cannon GPS Coordinates: 42.019366 by -96.090816
This is a great looking monument in a Civil War section at the entrance to the Onawa Cemetery. The monument has red polished granite and a bronze soldier. The height is 15 feet. It was dedicated in 1916. The inscription on the west side is shown - the inscription on the east side is "Fraternity Charity Loyalty Hanscom Post 97 GAR." The cannon is a 24 pounder flank howitzer, M1844. The cemetery is on the SE side of town. Take 6th Street south to the cemetery. Photos taken 9/26/21.
