General Samuel R. Curtis of Keokuk, Iowa was the Commander of victorious Federal Forces at the Battle of Pea Ridge on March 7-8, 1862. There are only two monuments on the battlefield - a Confederate monument was erected in 1887. There was a reunion of both Union and Confederate soldiers in 1889 and the second monument "A Reunited Soldiery" was dedicated. Both General Curtis and the Confederate Commander, General Earl Van Dorn, are shown on this monument. It is located near the Elkhorn Tavern tour stop. Photo taken 5/20/12.
