Montour - Veterans Memorial - GPS Coordinates: 41.975614 by -92.707873
This memorial is at the Montour Cemetery (also called Maple Hill) just SE of the town of Montour. It is more of a memorial to all Veterans - not just the Civil War - but it does have the GAR marker shown on the right side. It ls located across from the small house in the cemetery. Thank you to Steve Hanken for the notification and photo taken in 2014.
Toledo - Civil War Soldier - GPS Coordinates: 41.995933 by -92.578533
This is a 40 foot granite monument with bronze and metallic plaques. It was dedicated in 1890. The names of about 750 Civil War veterans from the county are on plaques around the monument. Each side shows a Civil War battle - Shiloh, Vicksburg, Chickamauga, and Gettysburg. It is located on the SE corner of the Courthouse Square in Toledo. The first photo was taken 8/27/12 - the second one on 7/13/19. Also included in an old undated postcard of the monument and courthouse sent by Danny Krock.
Traer - Plaque on Flagpole - GPS Coordinates: 42.205550 by -92.475066
There is a GAR plaque on the base of a 50 foot flag pole in Buckingham Cemetery. This was dedicated in 1925. The cemetery is north of town. The best way to get there is to take 160th Street west off Highway 63 - then south on Ave. P to the cemetery. There are two flag poles in the cemetery - this is the one to the south. The first photo was taken 5/4/08 - the final two on 7/13/19. As shown, the base needs a paint job and is breaking up on the south side.
