Afton - Civil War Soldier in Cemetery - GPS Coordinates: 41.033750 by -94.185733
This is a nice monument in Greenlawn Cemetery. It is granite and about 15 feet high. There are several tombstones of Civil War Veterans nearby. The monument is in good condition. The cemetery is about one mile NE of town. Take Pheasant Avenue, a gravel road, north from Highway 34. The monument is visible from the main entrance. Photo taken 5/16/09.
Creston - Civil War Soldier in Park - GPS Coordinates: 41.054683 by -94.381183
This monument is in a nice setting in McKinley Park in Creston. It is granite and is about 15 feet high. It was dedicated in 1911. Recently, a very attractive entrance has been updated with flags, landscaping, and benches. From downtown, take Adams Street west to McKinley Street. The monument is visible from McKinley and Lake Avenue. Photos taken 5/16/09.
Cromwell - GAR Monument - GPS Coordinates: 41.046300 by -94.461400
This is a nice 6 foot granite memorial dedicated in 1920 to the John A. Adams GAR Post No. 195. An old broken off GAR marker is set on the monument. The attractive Cromwell Cemetery is located just north of town at 1774 Monroe Avenue. The monument is on the SW corner of the Cemetery. Take Cromwell Road off Highway 34 on the west edge of Creston to the small town of Cromwell. Thank you to Mike Carr for notification of the monument. Photos taken 10/10/19.
