Corydon - Plaque Honoring William P. Allred - GPS Coordinates: 40.757300 by -93.311596
At the entrance to the Prairie Trails Museum in Corydon is a plaque honoring William P. Allred, a member of the 46th Iowa Infantry Regiment. Also shown is a photo of him, at 92 years old, as the oldest drummer boy. At this time he is the national president of the Association of Civil War Musicians. With 12 year old Buddy Kelley, the oldest and youngest members of the Association are from Corydon.
Prairie Trails is an outstanding museum. It has some Civil War artifacts in the military exhibits. It is at 515 E. Jefferson St. on the east side of town off Highway 2. Photos taken 6/5/09.
Corydon - Civil War Soldier - GPS Coordinates: 40.757550 by -93.318650
This is an excellent monument with a Civil War soldier. It is about 25 feet high. The monument was dedicated in 1919 at a cost of $6500. It is said to be the first one in the state dedicated to veterans of the Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War I. It is on the Courtyard Square, 100 N. Lafayette, in Corydon just north of Highway 2. Photo taken 8/1/08.
Corydon - GAR Stained Glass Window - GPS Coordinates: 40.757300 by -93.311596
This stained glass window was at the Lineville Methodist Church on the Iowa/Missouri border, south of Corydon. The church was built in 1897 but was set for demolition in 2012. Thanks to donations by the SUVCW, Iowa Department, and to their volunteers who moved the window, it was placed at the Prairie Trails Museum in Corydon. This is an excellent museum where the window is displayed very well. It is located at 515 E. Jefferson St. on the east side of town off Highway 2. Photos taken 6/3/13.
