Old Fort Madison/Riverview Park - Lee County - Fort Madison - 40.629083 by -91.311650
30 of these small cannons were cast at Quincy, Illinois. Only 6 are known to exist today. This one was said to have been buried and found in a nearby field. It is a 2 pounder, made of cast iron, and 36 inches in length. The only marking is the letter F. It was used by Iowa and Illinois Cavalry units but was not considered too effective. It is currently located in Old Fort Madison, a recontruction of the original fort that was attacked during the War of 1812. The Fort is located in Riverview Park. Hours when the Fort is open vary throughout the year.
